My review of PickleRage in North Charleston, SC

As a pickleball club “owner,” I love visiting other facilities — partly to admire their work… and partly to take detailed mental notes on everything I plan to “creatively relocate” back home. Call it espionage with a paddle.

This weekend I had the chance to visit a brand new pickleball facility in North Charleston called PickleRage and let’s just say… they’re not easing into the pickleball world — they’re cannonballing in.

First off, it’s located in more of a business park / strip mall area. Not scenic coastal Charleston vibes — but you’re not there for palm trees. You’re there to dink.

They’ve got 13 indoor courts with padded asphalt/concrete (basically outdoor courts brought inside). If you like the true outdoor feel without battling wind, sun, or random seagulls, this setup works great.

  • Lighting? Bright.

  • Spectator seating? Plenty.

  • Cleanliness? White glove approved.

  • High ceilings? Lob your heart out.

They definitely thought through every aspect.

I joined their Saturday open gym advertised as “all levels,” and here’s what I appreciated: the courts were indeed marked by level. So instead of the awkward “So… how good are you?” sideline interrogation, you just slide into the level that fits. Simple. Efficient. No ego drama.

Amenities are strong:

  • Pro shop (solid inventory)

  • Plenty of seating

  • Water stations throughout

  • Smoothie bar (yes, please)

  • Ample parking

  • “Save My Play” video options on every court!

  • And a legit winners’ platform for tournaments — because if you win, you should stand somewhere higher than everyone else for at least 45 seconds.

The staff was fantastic. I mainly interacted with the General Manager, Camden, who gave me a generous tour and clearly takes pride in the facility. It shows.

The players? Even better. Friendly. Welcoming. No weird, cliquish, “we’ve been 4.5 since birth” energy. The highlight for me was jumping into games with obvious locals who immediately brought me into their fold. That matters. Facilities are buildings. Culture is everything.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely. If you’re in the Charleston area or just traveling through and need a quality run, this is worth your time.

The only thing that is keeping this facility from elite status? Offering a certain bestselling pickleball book in the pro shop. But I’ll let Camden work on that.

Big congrats to Camden and his team. They’ve built something strong — and I suspect it’s going to be packed.
